Nightwish And Singer Floor Jansen Part Ways — The Band Will Record A New Album In 2027

Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish and Dutch singer Floor Jansen, their vocalist since 2012, announced on October 15 that they are parting ways. In the statement both posted on their official Instagram and other channels, they say the decision was reached by mutual agreement after careful consideration and that it matters for the future ambitions of both; no specific reason was given. The band's version goes on to say that Nightwish will continue and will enter the studio in 2027 to record a new album.

A parting by mutual agreement, with no successor named

The statement says the two sides decided, after careful consideration and by mutual agreement, to part ways and to pursue their goals separately from now on, and wishes each other well. It calls this the end of a great voyage, for the fans as much as for the musicians.

The band's version states plainly that Nightwish will continue and will enter the studio in 2027 to record a new album, adding that as they celebrate thirty years of the band they are very excited about their music and their future. The statement does not mention a successor.

Nightwish announced a break from touring in 2023 and did not tour Yesterwynde, their tenth album, released in September 2024. In August, Floor Jansen told Germany's Sonic Seducer that the band was on a temporary hold with nothing planned; the same month, Tuomas Holopainen told the U.K.'s Metal Hammer that he had already written six songs for the band's eleventh album.

Floor Jansen turns to her solo career; Hytress is out January 15

In her own Instagram post, Floor Jansen called it a hard decision but said she believes a bright musical road lies ahead of her. Thanking the fans for their support, she said her solo career will now get her full attention, so that her new album, Hytress, due in 2027, and its tour have room to grow.

Hytress is her second solo album, following her March 2023 debut, Paragon, and comes out on January 15, 2027 through REVAMP Music/Warner Music. It was announced in August together with the song "Bring Me Silence"; its twelve tracks are billed as heavier and more direct, built around down-tuned guitars.

When the tour was announced in June, it took in club shows in nine European cities, from Antwerp, Belgium, on January 14, 2027 to Tilburg, the Netherlands, on February 13; South America is to follow.

Fourteen years, from a mid-tour start in 2012

Floor Jansen first sang with Nightwish on October 1, 2012, at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, during the Imaginaerum world tour and right after Anette Olzon, the band's singer of five years, abruptly left. Known from After Forever and then singing in ReVamp, she stepped in mid-tour, and on October 9, 2013 the band announced that she and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley had become permanent members.

In the studio she sang on three albums: Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), Human. :||: Nature. (2020) and Yesterwynde (2024). She is also on three live releases: Showtime, Storytime; Vehicle of Spirit; and Decades: Live in Buenos Aires. The Greatest 30 Years On Earth, the thirtieth-anniversary release coming from Nuclear Blast on December 11, holds audio and video from Amsterdam in 2022 and the band's 2023 homecoming show in Kitee, both from the Human. :||: Nature. tour on which she sang.

In Japan: May 2013

In May 2013, before the permanent lineup was announced, Nightwish with Floor Jansen played Japan. The Japanese dates opened on May 21 at Namba Hatch in Osaka, and on May 25 the band played the Loud & Metal Attack at Studio Coast in Tokyo. In Osaka they played "She Is My Sin" for the first time since 2007 and "Bless the Child" for the first time since 2005.
