Liner Notes
The Spaghetti Incident? is the fifth album, made up entirely of covers of punk, glam and garage rock. Many of the tracks were parts played by Izzy Stradlin during the Use Your Illusion sessions, later re-recorded by his successor Gilby Clarke. Duff McKagan takes many of the lead vocals, on songs such as “New Rose” (The Damned) and “Raw Power” (The Stooges), while Hanoi Rocks' Michael Monroe guests on “Ain't It Fun.”
From the sweet intro of “Since I Don't Have You” to Axl Rose's playful English accent on “Down on the Farm” and Slash's lead vocal on “Buick Mackane,” the selection ranges remarkably wide. The arrangements avoid excessive decoration, centering on guitar grit and forward-leaning rhythm. The stance of stamping the songs with the band's own habits rather than merely tracing the originals lays bare their raw roots. Stepping back from the scale of the epics to show what they respond to, it gains a distinct meaning as a transitional document.
