Let It Rock, Great White's eighth studio album, appeared first in Japan, where Victor Entertainment released it on 21 February 1996 as VICP-5680; the American edition followed on Imago, The Imago Recording Company, in May 1996 as 72787-23005-2. Dito Godwin, Jack Russell and Michael Lardie produced it, and Alan Niven, who had co-produced the three previous albums with Lardie, is not among the credits. It was recorded in October 1995 at 710 Studios and Total Access Recording Studios, mixed at Jandemonium Studios and mastered by Steve Hall at Future Disc; the arrangements and the cover concept are credited to the band.
Russell sang, Mark Kendall played lead guitar, Lardie played guitar and keyboards as well as flute, percussion and banjo, and Audie Desbrow played drums; the bass was played by guest Dave Spitz. Cody McDonald added harmonica, and guests on alto saxophone, trumpet and flugelhorn, trombone, violin, viola and cello filled out the sound. Don Dokken and Matthew Johnson are among the writers of the opening "My World", Spitz co-wrote "Lil' Mama" and "Lives in Chains", Desbrow shares the credit on "Pain Overload", and "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" is a song by Floyd D. Rose and Scott Palmerton.
The American CD has eleven tracks and did not reach the Billboard 200; Imago issued "My World" on a promotional CD single. The Japanese CD has twelve, adding "Burnin' House of Love", with liner notes by Masa Itoh and lyric translations by Mariko Kawahara. In Japan the band had moved from Pony Canyon for Psycho City to BMG Victor for Sail Away, and from this album on to Victor Entertainment, which also released the Japanese editions of Great Zeppelin: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin and Can't Get There from Here in 1999.
