Can't Get There from Here, Great White's ninth studio album, was released first in Japan, by Victor Entertainment on 12 May 1999, and then in the US in July on Portrait, a Columbia label. Jack Blades produced it and sang backing vocals, and Don Dokken produced one song, "Psychedelic Hurricane". It was recorded between 22 May and 14 June 1998 at 710 Studios in Redondo Beach and The Barn Studio in Santa Rosa, California, mixed by Noel Golden and mastered by David Donnelly. The band was Jack Russell, Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie, who also engineered, Sean McNabb on bass and Audie Desbrow on drums. Blades is among the writers of "Rollin' Stoned", "Ain't No Shame", "Silent Night", "Saint Lorraine", "In the Tradition" and "Loveless Age", and Dokken of "Ain't No Shame", "Gone to the Dogs" and "Wooden Jesus". According to the band's own profile, Lardie later spent 2003 to 2007 in Night Ranger and had known Blades for many years before that. "Rollin' Stoned" was the single: it reached number eight on Billboard's rock chart in September 1999 and stayed there for 15 weeks. The album entered the Billboard 200 at 192 on the chart dated 24 July 1999 and left it a week later. The Japanese CD adds a thirteenth track, "The Good Die Young" by Jeff Pilson and Dokken. Two months before it, on 20 March 1999, Victor Entertainment had also released the Japanese edition of Great Zeppelin: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin, the band's album of Led Zeppelin songs recorded live in December 1996.
