The Power of the Nightstar

The Power of the Nightstar is DRAGONLAND's sixth album, released on 14 October 2022 through AFM Records/Soulfood. It was their first new album in eleven years, since Under the Grey Banner in 2011, and a long-awaited return. The record is a wholly sci-fi concept album, set in space and separate from the Dragonland Chronicles saga. Elias Holmlid described it as the story of a people astray, looking for a new home throughout a hostile universe. It was recorded from February 2021 to January 2022 at the band's own Dragonland Studios and at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark. DRAGONLAND produced the album themselves, Jacob Hansen mixed and mastered it, and the cover was designed by Pedro Sena, whose credits include AMON AMARTH. The line-up was Jonas Heidgert (vocals), Olof Mörck and Jesse Lindskog (guitars), Elias Holmlid (keyboards), Anders Hammer (bass) and Johan Nunez (drums), who had played the band's live shows since joining in 2014 but made his first studio appearance here. Guests include a duet with AMARANTHE's Elize Ryd on "Journey's End", as well as Nils Patrik Johansson and Tommy Johansson. The advance singles were the title track "The Power of the Nightstar" (3 June 2022, the band's first-ever music video), "Flight from Destruction" (29 July 2022) and "The Scattering of Darkness" (23 September 2022). The Japanese edition, released two days ahead of the international one on 12 October 2022 by Marquee/Avalon (MICP-11706, 2,970 yen incl. tax), adds one bonus track.
