Liner Notes
Victim of the New Disease is the ninth album, on which All That Remains — building on the reach widened by Madness — shifted their center back toward heavier metalcore. Released on Fearless Records in November 2018. Cutting guitar, hard breakdowns and the contrast of Phil Labonte's cleans and screams give the songs tension. Lyrics rooted in Labonte's divorce carry some of the darkest tones of their career. Critics praised it highly as a return to form.
As on the pre-released “Fuck Love” and “Wasteland,” leaving big melody alongside the roughness is this band's way. Songs like “Misery in Me” and “Alone in the Darkness” also shine, and Danny Worsnop guests on “Just Tell Me Something.” In October 2018, while the album was being mixed, founding member and guitarist Oli Herbert died at 44, so the record also carries a special weight. It became his last recording, and many rate his playing here among his career best. Across ten songs, a record that fiercely inscribes the band's aggression and sense of hooks.
