Tabula Rasa

『Tabula Rasa』は、デビュー作から4年を置き、2016年1月にドイツのAOR Heavenから出た第2作である。題はラテン語で「何も書かれていない板」。今回はプロデュースも録音の仕上げも、ドラムのエリック・ヴィゲリウスが自分で引き受けた。共同プロデューサーは兄弟のアンダース・ヴィゲリウスとギターのヤコブ・スヴェンソンで、ベースにはパトリック・ヤンソンが新しく入っている。空白の4年ではない。この間に兄弟はCARE OF NIGHTのデビュー作を手がけ、他の歌い手へ曲を書き続けており、本作はその作業と並行して組み上げられた。 日本の聴き手にとっては、その「他の歌い手」の顔ぶれが面白いはずだ。二人はSexy Zone、Supernova、風男塾、chayらへ曲を提供しており、アジアの現場と深くつながっている。日本盤には彼らが日本のために新録した“Wild Woman”が追加された。曲は5分を超える“Do It All Again”で始まり、スヴェンソンの独奏が光る“Deja Vu”、そして“These Tears I Cry”へ。“Time Well Wasted”と“Please Please Please”は2014年に単独で先行公開された曲で、当時アルバムは別のレーベルから2015年春に出る予定だった。最後はピアノ主体のバラード“My Cherie”。全12曲。

Tabula Rasa is the second album, released in January 2016 by the German label AOR Heaven, four years after the debut. The title is Latin for a blank slate. This time drummer Erik Wigelius took on the production and finished the record himself, with his brother Anders Wigelius and guitarist Jakob Svensson co-producing and Patrik Janson newly installed on bass. The four years were not empty ones. In that time the brothers produced Care of Night's debut and kept writing songs for other singers, and this album was built alongside that work. For Japanese listeners, the identity of those other singers should be the interesting part. The two have supplied songs to Sexy Zone, Supernova, Fudanjuku and chay, and are deeply connected to the Asian scene; the Japanese edition added "Wild Woman," recorded new for that release. The music opens with "Do It All Again," past five minutes, then "Deja Vu" with a Svensson solo that reviewers seized on, and "These Tears I Cry." "Time Well Wasted" and "Please Please Please" had already appeared as standalone singles back in 2014, when the album was still due from a different label in spring 2015. The piano-led ballad "My Cherie" closes all twelve.
