Helldorado

『Helldorado』は、W.A.S.P.が、前作『Kill Fuck Die』での実験的なインダストリアル路線から一転し、太いギター・リフ、重いビート、そしてブラッキー・ローレスの劇的な歌を用いて、より直線的で、土臭いヘヴィ・ロックンロールへと回帰した作品だ。過度に複雑な構成へと進むのではなく、あくまで曲ごとの、分かりやすいフックと、どこか不穏なムードとを、前面に押し出している。原点回帰的な、シンプルな力強さが魅力の一枚である。 土臭く、ワイルドなロックンロールの感触と、W.A.S.P.ならではの、ダークで大仰な演出とが、絶妙に混ざり合い、アルバム全体に、独特の毒気と、危険な魅力を与えている。表題曲“Helldorado”をはじめ、収録曲は、重さと、ある種の遊び心とを、同時に力強く鳴らしている。ローレスのギターと歌が、荒々しく牽引していく。 複雑さや、深いコンセプトを追うのではなく、あくまでストレートで、タフなロックンロールの快楽を、力強く追求した点に、本作の魅力がある。前作の、実験的で重い作風から、より聴きやすい方向へと舵を切った一枚だ。バンドの持つ、タフでワイルドな、ロックンロール・バンドとしての側面が、色濃く出た、力強い一枚と言える。ストレートな魅力に満ちている。

Helldorado is a work on which W.A.S.P., turning from the experimental industrial direction of the previous Kill Fuck Die, returns to more straight-ahead, earthy heavy rock and roll, using thick guitar riffs, heavy beats and Blackie Lawless’s dramatic singing. Rather than proceeding to overly complex construction, it foregrounds each song’s clear hooks and a somehow uneasy mood. A record whose appeal is a back-to-origin, simple power. An earthy, wild rock-and-roll feel and W.A.S.P.’s dark, grandiose staging mix exquisitely, giving the whole work a distinctive venom and dangerous appeal. Led by the title track “Helldorado,” the songs powerfully sound both weight and a kind of playfulness at once. Lawless’s guitar and singing drive roughly. Its appeal lies in powerfully pursuing the pleasure of straight, tough rock and roll rather than chasing complexity or deep concept.
