『Vengeance Falls』は、DISTURBEDのデヴィッド・ドレイマンをプロデューサーに迎えて制作された、TRIVIUMの第6作だ。ドレイマンの指導のもとマット・ヒーフィーは歌唱の幅を大きく広げ、クリーン・ヴォーカルとメロディの比重を高めた、引き締まったモダン・メタルへと踏み出している。硬いリフと大きなコーラスを整然とした構成で鳴らす本作は、ニック・オーガストが参加した最後のアルバムでもあり、バンドの一つの区切りを刻んでいる。全米アルバム・チャートで27位、ハード・ロック・チャートで2位に達し、商業的にも安定した成果を残した。 先行シングル“Strife”は、疾走するリフと壮麗なサビを備えた本作の代表曲として高く評価された。無料配信された“Brave This Storm”の重厚な高揚、“To Believe”のメロディックな求心力まで、ドレイマン印の明快なフックが全編に効いている。“Through Blood and Dirt and Bone”のような楽曲では、往年のヘヴィな一面も健在だ。複雑さよりも楽曲そのものの質と即効性を優先した本作は、賛否を呼びつつも、TRIVIUMがメロディック・メタルの担い手として成熟していく過程を示す重要な一枚である。

Vengeance Falls is Trivium's sixth album, made with Disturbed's David Draiman as producer. Under Draiman's guidance Matt Heafy greatly widened his vocal range, raising the weight of clean vocals and melody as the band stepped toward a tight, modern metal. Playing hard riffs and big choruses through orderly construction, it is also the last album to feature Nick Augusto, marking a turning point for the band. It reached No. 27 on the US album chart and No. 2 on the Hard Rock chart, a steady commercial result. The lead single "Strife" was highly regarded as the album's signature song, with racing riffs and a majestic chorus. From the weighty lift of the free-download "Brave This Storm" to the melodic pull of "To Believe," Draiman's trademark clear hooks work throughout. Songs like "Through Blood and Dirt and Bone" keep an older heavy side alive. Prioritizing the quality and immediacy of the songs over complexity, and for all the debate around it, it is an important record showing Trivium's maturing as a melodic-metal act.
