Servitude

『Servitude』は、喪失を越えて次章を切り開いた、THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDERの第10作だ。共同創設者でありフロントマンだったトレヴァー・ストルナドが2022年に世を去った後、残されたメンバーはバンドの継続を決断した。共同創設者でギタリストのブライアン・エシュバックがリード・ヴォーカルと作詞を引き継ぎ、かつて在籍したライアン・ナイトがギターに復帰。ブランドン・エリスとの二本のリード・ギターという、これまでにない布陣で新たな地平を切り開いている。 先行シングル“Aftermath”は、隕石衝突後の世界を描いた、本作屈指の高速ナンバーだ。冒頭の“Evening Ephemeral”から表題曲“Servitude”、終曲“Utopia Black”まで、獰猛なメロディック・デスの持ち味が全編に貫かれている。ギター、ベース、ヴォーカルはエリスのニュージャージーの自宅スタジオで録音され、ドラムはナッシュビルでマーク・ルイスが録音、テッド・ジェンセンがマスタリングを施している。ストルナドの遺産を受け継ぎ、その名誉のもとにバンドが新時代の幕を開けたことを鮮明に示す、力強い一枚である。

Servitude is The Black Dahlia Murder's tenth album, on which they opened a new chapter beyond loss. After co-founder and frontman Trevor Strnad passed away in 2022, the remaining members decided to continue the band. Co-founder and guitarist Brian Eschbach took over lead vocals and lyrics, and former member Ryan Knight returned on guitar. With twin lead guitars alongside Brandon Ellis — a configuration the band never had before — they open new terrain. The lead single "Aftermath," depicting a world after a meteor strike, is one of the album's fastest numbers. From the opener "Evening Ephemeral" to the title track "Servitude" and the closer "Utopia Black," their ferocious melodic-death character runs throughout. Guitars, bass and vocals were recorded at Ellis's home studio in New Jersey, with drums tracked by Mark Lewis in Nashville and mastering by Ted Jensen. Carrying on Strnad's legacy and, in his honor, it is a powerful record that vividly shows the band opening the curtain on a new era.
