Verkligheten

『Verkligheten』は、SOILWORKがメロディック・デス・メタルの鋭い攻撃性と、ハード・ロック的に開かれた歌心を幅広く描いた作品だ。低く刻むリフ、切れ味のあるリード、疾走するドラムが曲の骨格を作り、荒いヴォーカルとクリーンな歌唱の対比が感情の幅を押し広げている。曲は激しくてもメロディの出口を失わず、重さと親しみやすさが互いを弱めずに共存している。 “Verkligheten”“Arrival”“Full Moon Shoals”“The Wolves Are Back in Town”といった楽曲では、短く鋭く切り込む場面で現代的なメタルの圧力が際立ち、展開の大きい曲では北欧らしい哀愁と壮大なコーラスが印象を残す。“Bleeder Despoiler”“Stålfågel”のような楽曲にも、バンドの多面性が息づいている。“The Nurturing Glance”“Needles and Kin”“You Aquiver”のような楽曲にも、バンドの多面性が息づいている。タイトルはスウェーデン語で「現実」を意味し、バンドの新たな章の始まりを告げる作品となった。技巧的な演奏は常に歌の感情を支え、リフは次のメロディを呼び込んでいる。バンドの歩みを総括しながら、新しい景色へと踏み出す力も感じさせる、充実した一枚である。

Verkligheten is a work on which SOILWORK broadly drew the sharp aggression of melodic death metal and a hard-rock-open melodic sense. Low chugging riffs, sharp leads and racing drums build the songs’ frame, and the contrast between rough vocals and clean singing widens the emotional range. However fierce the songs, they never lose the melodic exit, and weight and accessibility coexist without weakening each other. On “Verkligheten,” “Arrival,” “Full Moon Shoals” and “The Wolves Are Back in Town,” in the short, sharply cutting scenes a modern metal pressure stands out, and in the larger-developing songs a Nordic melancholy and grand choruses leave an impression. Songs like “Bleeder Despoiler” and “Stålfågel” breathe the band’s many sides too. The technical playing always supports the emotion of the singing, and the riffs call in the next melody. Summing up the band’s path while also suggesting the power to step into a new scene, it is a full record.
