Övergivenheten is a work on which SOILWORK brought together melodic death, an alternative feel and progressive development on a rich scale. Björn “Speed” Strid’s clean and growl greatly widen the emotional range, and the guitar draws aggression and melancholy at once. Even after a long career, the band’s creative drive has not dimmed in the least. On “Övergivenheten,” “Nous Sommes la Guerre,” “Electric Again” and “Death, I Hear You Calling,” racing aggression and deep lyricism skillfully coexist. Songs like “Valleys of Gloam” and “The Everlasting Flame” breathe the band’s rich expressiveness too. A weighty, human emotion — moving forward while holding a sense of loss — runs through the whole. A rewarding record for fully savoring SOILWORK’s maturity and fullness.
