Living the Dream

『Living the Dream』は、SLASHがマイルス・ケネディ&ザ・コンスピレイターズとの結び付きをさらに深め、リフ主体のハード・ロックを大らかに鳴らした第4作だ。2018年9月にスラッシュ自身のレーベル、スネイクピットから発表された。ガンズ・アンド・ローゼズ再結成ツアーの合間に書かれ、2018年前半に録音されている。フランク・シドリスがリズム・ギターで参加した最初の作品でもある。題名は「夢を生きる」という素直な意味ではなく、世界の情勢に向けた皮肉なのだと本人は語っている。ジャケットはデビュー作と同じロン・イングリッシュの手による。 スラッシュのギターは一音で分かる表情を保ち、マイルスの高く伸びる歌が曲に明るい推進力を与える。“Driving Rain”“Mind Your Manners”“Boulevard of Broken Hearts”などは、ブルースの色気、クラシック・ロックの骨太さ、メロディアスなサビを自然に結ぶ。前作の大作ぶりとは対照的に、12曲を簡潔にまとめた構成も効いている。技巧を見せるだけでなく、バンドで演奏する喜びが前に出る。ライヴ感のあるハード・ロックを楽しめる一枚だ。

Living the Dream is the fourth album, on which Slash deepened the bond with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators and played riff-driven hard rock generously. Released in September 2018 on Slash's own label, Snakepit. It was written in the gaps of the Guns N' Roses reunion tour and recorded in the first half of 2018. It's also the first record with Frank Sidoris on rhythm guitar. The title isn't the straightforward “living the dream” — Slash says it's sarcasm aimed at the state of the world. The sleeve is by Ron English, as on the debut. Slash's guitar keeps an expression you can identify from one note, and Myles's soaring singing gives the songs a bright drive. “Driving Rain,” “Mind Your Manners” and “Boulevard of Broken Hearts” naturally tie together blues allure, classic rock's sturdiness and melodic choruses. In contrast to the previous album's sprawl, the concise twelve-song shape works well. Beyond showing technique, the joy of playing as a band comes forward. A record for enjoying hard rock with a live feel.
