Apocalyptic Love

『Apocalyptic Love』は、SLASHの太く歌うギター、マイルス・ケネディの力強いヴォーカル、堅実なリズム隊を中心に組み立てられたハード・ロック作品だ。2012年に発表された。デビュー作のツアーでバンドを率いたケネディを正式に迎え、トッド・カーンズ(ベース)とブレント・フィッツ(ドラム)を加えた「SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators」名義の第一作となる。この時期はケネディがリズム・ギターも兼ねていた。以後10年以上にわたって続く編成が、ここで固まったことになる。 リフはシンプルに強く、ソロは曲の流れを壊さずに色彩と高揚を加える。クラシック・ロックの感触を持ちながら、サウンドと歌は現代的で、若々しい推進力がある。表題曲から“One Last Thrill”“You're a Lie”“Halo”“We Will Roam”、そして長尺のインストゥルメンタル“Anastasia”まで、多彩な曲が並ぶ。多数のゲストを立てた前作とは対照的に、固定メンバーで作り上げた一体感こそが最大の魅力だ。ギター中心のロックンロールを正面から楽しめる一枚である。

Apocalyptic Love is a hard rock record built around Slash's thick, singing guitar, Myles Kennedy's powerful vocals and a solid rhythm section. Released in 2012. Kennedy, who had fronted the band on the debut's tour, was brought in properly, and with Todd Kerns (bass) and Brent Fitz (drums) this became the first record billed as Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. At this point Kennedy doubled on rhythm guitar. The line-up that would last more than a decade settled here. The riffs are simply strong, and the solos add color and elation without breaking the songs' flow. It has the feel of classic rock while the sound and singing are contemporary, with a youthful drive. From the title track through “One Last Thrill,” “You're a Lie,” “Halo” and “We Will Roam” to the long instrumental “Anastasia,” a varied set lines up. In contrast to the previous record's parade of guests, the unity of a fixed band is the greatest appeal here. A record for enjoying guitar-centred rock 'n' roll head-on.
