Rescue

『Rescue』は、SHAMANがブラジリアン・パワー・メタルらしい熱量とシンフォニックな華やかさを再提示した第5作だ。2018年にオリジナル編成で再結成し、アヴァンタジアとのツアーも回ったものの、翌2019年にアンドレ・マトスが急逝してしまう。その後、アリリオ・ネットを新たな歌い手に迎え、ウーゴ・マリウッチ、ルイス・マリウッチ、ヒカルド・コンフェソーリ、ファビオ・リベイロという布陣で、12年ぶりとなる新作を完成させた。サンパウロとドイツで録音され、デビュー作と同じくサッシャ・ピートがプロデュースを担当している。マーカス・ヴィアナも再びヴァイオリンで参加した。 喪失と、そこから立ち直る過程を主題にした歌詞に、バンドが歩みを進める意志が刻まれている。器楽の序奏“Tribute”から“Time Is Running Out”へ、高速曲の高揚感だけでなく、壮大なコーラスや叙情的な場面にも重みがある。“Where Are You Now?”の切実さ、マトスの逝去後に最初に録音された“Brand New Me”を経て、締めの“The Final Rescue”まで、タイトルどおり再生へ向かう力を確かに感じさせる一枚だ。

Rescue is the fifth album, on which Shaman re-presented Brazilian power metal's intensity and symphonic brilliance. The original lineup reunited in 2018 and toured with Avantasia, but the following year Andre Matos died suddenly. Afterward, bringing in Alírio Netto as the new singer, the lineup of Hugo Mariutti, Luis Mariutti, Ricardo Confessori and Fábio Ribeiro completed a new record after twelve years. Recorded in São Paulo and Germany, it was produced by Sascha Paeth, as the debut had been. Marcus Viana again takes part on violin. In lyrics themed on loss and the process of recovering from it, the band's will to keep moving is inscribed. From the instrumental intro “Tribute” into “Time Is Running Out,” there is weight not only in the lift of the fast songs but in the grand choruses and lyrical passages. Through the urgency of “Where Are You Now?” and “Brand New Me” — the first song recorded after Matos's death — to the closing “The Final Rescue,” it conveys a real force moving toward renewal, just as the title suggests.
