Savage Amusement is the tenth album on which Scorpions pull thick guitars, clear rhythm and Klaus Meine’s transparent voice into a refined sonic picture. In both aggressive numbers and ballads, the design toward the chorus is vivid, and a polished late-1980s sound runs throughout. From the catchy lift of “Rhythm of Love” and the drive of “Passion Rules the Game” to the lyricism of “Believe in Love” and the drama of “Walking on the Edge” and “Media Overkill,” every song carries a clear hook. Hardness and flair are balanced, and arena-ready scale coexists with accessibility. Following the great success of the previous Love at First Sting, this more carefully crafted record stands as one complete form of Scorpions’ melodic hard rock.
