Paradox is a very strongly conceptual representative work on which Royal Hunt binds thick, gorgeous keyboards, dramatic choruses and heavy guitar. A culminating record of the period D.C. Cooper belonged, with the whole album tightly constructed around one story. The songs proceed vividly changing their light and shade from scene to scene, and Cooper’s overwhelming, expressive singing powerfully pushes out the deep emotion in the story. In particular, the grand, over-ten-minute suite-like classic “Message to God,” on which symphonic arrangement and dramatic development beautifully come to fruition, still boasts high popularity as one of the band’s signature songs.
