『Bent Out of Shape』は、洗練されたメロディとリッチー・ブラックモアのギターを結び、RAINBOWが大きな歌心を響かせた第七作だ。ジョー・リン・ターナーを擁する編成による、オリジナル期の最後のスタジオ作である。録音はコペンハーゲンで行われ、ロジャー・グローヴァーがプロデュースを手掛けた。ドラムには、ロンディネリに代わってチャック・バーギが加わった。インストゥルメンタル“Snowman”は、アニメ映画『スノーマン』の主題歌「Walking in the Air」を編曲したものである。 “Street of Dreams”“Can't Let You Go”“Stranded”といった、力強い楽曲が並ぶ。AORの色を強めたシングル“Street of Dreams”は、彼らの代表的なバラードとして知られる。インストゥルメンタル“Anybody There”は、グラミー賞にノミネートされた。本作の後、ブラックモアはグローヴァーとともにDEEP PURPLEの再結成へと向かい、RAINBOWは長い休止に入った。“Street of Dreams”のミュージック・ビデオは、その内容ゆえにMTVで放送禁止となった。円熟の一枚である。

Bent Out of Shape is Rainbow's seventh album, on which they sounded a great sense of song, tying refined melody to Ritchie Blackmore's guitar. With a lineup featuring Joe Lynn Turner, it is the last studio album of their original era. Recording took place in Copenhagen, with Roger Glover handling production. On drums, Chuck Burgi joined in place of Rondinelli. The instrumental 'Snowman' is an arrangement of 'Walking in the Air,' the theme from the animated film The Snowman. Powerful songs like "Street of Dreams," "Can't Let You Go" and "Stranded" line up. The single "Street of Dreams," with a stronger AOR flavor, is known as one of their signature ballads. The instrumental "Anybody There" was nominated for a Grammy Award. After this album, Blackmore, together with Glover, headed toward a Deep Purple reunion, and Rainbow entered a long hiatus. The music video for 'Street of Dreams' was banned by MTV over its content. A mature record.
