Devil's Ground is a fulfilling fifth album on which Primal Fear binds heavy, tough guitar, robust rhythm and piercing highs in a straight line. It pushes the sure appeal as traditional metal of the previous works further. The songs need almost no complex decoration, leaving a strong impression on the listener purely with the riffs’ sure force and the choruses’ powerful drive. A record where the band’s mature ability shines. The opening anthem “Metal Is Forever,” singing aloud of love for metal, became one of the band’s signature songs with its powerful message. The aggression of “Suicide and Mania,” the drama of “Sea of Flames” and cuts like “The Healer” and “In Metal” convey the work’s fullness. Ralf Scheepers’s overwhelming highs are powerfully in sharp form throughout. A record on which both speed-filled songs and heavy songs have a never-wavering, sure core in the band’s playing.
