PRIMAL FEARの『Apocalypse』は、ラルフ・シーパースの強烈なハイトーンとマット・シナーの重いベースを軸に、正統派パワー・メタルの快感を徹底して追求した第12作。ツイン・ギターは速い曲で鋭く走り、ミドル・テンポでは重圧を作る。 “King of Madness”“Hounds of Justice”などは、複雑な寄り道をせず、リフ、スピード、サビという核を強く打ち出す。一方で壮麗なアレンジや陰りのあるメロディもあり、単調にはならない。信頼できる様式を、演奏の説得力で更新した一枚である。 ここで大切なのは、目立つリフやサビだけでなく、音の重さ、リズムの呼吸、歌の表情が曲順の中でどう変化するかである。各パートは単独で主張するためではなく、次のメロディや感情の高まりを強く聞かせるために置かれている。 音量を上げれば低域の圧力や細かなアタックが見え、繰り返し聴けばアレンジの余白とフレーズの受け渡しが浮かび上がる。作品全体を通して聴くことで、単曲では見えにくい緊張と解放の流れもはっきり感じられる。 こうした細部が、楽曲ごとの個性を保ちながら一枚のまとまりへ結び付けている。強さだけでなく、旋律と音色の陰影まで味わえることが、このアルバムを長く聴き返したくなる理由である。

Apocalypse pursues the pleasures of traditional power metal with complete commitment around Ralf Scheepers’ fierce high voice and Mat Sinner’s heavy bass. The twin guitars race sharply in faster material and create real pressure at mid-tempo. “King of Madness” and “Hounds of Justice” place riff, speed and chorus at the center without unnecessary detours. Grand arrangement and darker melody also keep the album from feeling one-dimensional. It refreshes a trusted style through the conviction of the performance. This expanded liner entry keeps the existing album-specific perspective, then places it within the full listening experience: the way texture, dynamics and sequencing make each section lead into the next.
