『Vengeance』は、低く重いギターとダークなメロディを組み合わせ、MYSTIC PROPHECYの威厳あるパワー・メタル像を固めたデビュー作だ。ヴォーカルの力強い発声が、曲の攻撃性をさらに押し出している。ロベルト・ディミトリ・リアパキスと、後にファイアーウインドやオジー・オズボーンのバンドで活躍するギタリスト、ガス・Gが中心となって結成された、注目のデビュー作である。 “1545 - The Beginning”“Damnation And Darkness”“Fallen Angel”といった楽曲では、疾走感だけでなく、重心の低いミッドテンポにも存在感がある。“Sky's Burning”“River Of Hate”“In The Mirror”のような楽曲にも、初期らしい荒々しい魅力が息づいている。“Welcome In The Damned Circle”“When Shadows Fall”のような楽曲にも、初期らしい荒々しい魅力が息づいている。ギリシャ出身のリアパキスと同じくギリシャにルーツを持つガス・Gという才能あるミュージシャンの出会いから生まれた本作は、ダークな世界観の萌芽が随所に見られる意欲的なデビュー作だ。勇壮さと陰鬱さを同時に鳴らすことで、独自の空気を作り上げている。ダークで硬派なジャーマン・パワー・メタルの、力強い出発点となった一枚だ。

Vengeance is the debut that solidified MYSTIC PROPHECY’s dignified power-metal image, combining low, heavy guitar and dark melody. The powerful vocal delivery further pushes out the songs’ aggression. It is a notable debut, formed centered on Roberto Dimitri Liapakis and guitarist Gus G., who would later be active in Firewind and Ozzy Osbourne’s band. On “1545 - The Beginning,” “Damnation And Darkness” and “Fallen Angel,” there is presence not only in the drive but in the low-centered mid-tempo. Songs like “Sky's Burning,” “River Of Hate” and “In The Mirror” breathe an early rough appeal too. By sounding valor and gloom at once, they build a distinctive air. It is a powerful starting point for dark, hard-nosed German power metal.
