『Regressus』は、MYSTIC PROPHECYが低いギター・リフ、熱量の高いヴォーカル、勇壮なコーラスを結び付けた第2作だ。パワー・メタルの疾走感を持ちながら、音は軽くならず、終始ヘヴィ・メタルらしい圧力を保っている。デビュー作の路線を、より力強く推し進めた一枚である。 “Calling from Hell”“Lords of Pain”“Sign of the Cross”といった楽曲では、攻撃的なフレーズと覚えやすいメロディが密接に噛み合い、作品には実直な推進力がある。“Eternal Flame”“The Traveller”“Mystic Prophecy”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“Night of the Storm”“Forgotten Soul”“The Land of the Dead”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ダークで攻撃的な作風はさらに研ぎ澄まされヨーロピアン・パワー・メタルの中でも独特の重さを備えており、疾走感と重量感を両立させたサウンドは後のバンドの方向性を明確に指し示している、初期の充実を示す一枚だ。ガス・Gの鋭いギター・ワークも、作品に大きな貢献を果たしている。硬い手触りで聴かせる正統派メタルの、充実した一枚である。

Regressus is the second album on which MYSTIC PROPHECY bound low guitar riffs, high-heat vocals and heroic choruses. While having power metal’s drive, the sound does not go light, keeping a heavy-metal pressure throughout. It is a record that pushed the debut’s direction more powerfully. On “Calling from Hell,” “Lords of Pain” and “Sign of the Cross,” aggressive phrases and memorable melody mesh closely, and the work has an honest drive. Songs like “Eternal Flame,” “The Traveller” and “Mystic Prophecy” breathe the band’s full playing too. Gus G.’s sharp guitar work also makes a great contribution to the work. It is a full record of orthodox metal that plays with a hard feel.
