One More Light

『One More Light』は、LINKIN PARKがヘヴィなギターの比重を下げ、エレクトロニック・ポップとR&B的なリズムを前面に出した第7作だ。プロデュースはブラッド・デルソンとマイク・シノダが手掛けた。音の密度は軽くなっているが、歌詞とヴォーカルには不安、喪失、つながりを求める感情が強く残る。従来の攻撃性を期待すると意外に感じるかもしれないが、ここで重視されているのは心の近さとメロディの伝達力だ。 “Heavy”はキアラを迎えた繊細なポップ・ソングで、“Talking to Myself”“One More Light”も感情的な深みを持つ。バンドが変化を恐れず、よりむき出しの感情へ向かった記録として聴きたい。“Sharp Edges”のようなアコースティックな楽曲や、“Good Goodbye”のヒップホップ的な要素まで、アルバムは幅広い表現を試みている。ポップへの大胆な接近は賛否を呼んだが、バンドはむき出しの感情を優先した。本作は米ビルボード200で初登場1位を獲得した。しかしリリースの約2か月後、2017年7月にチェスター・ベニントンが急逝し、本作はオリジナル編成による最後の作品となった。静かな曲ほど深く残る、感情豊かな一枚である。

One More Light is the seventh album, on which Linkin Park lowered the weight of heavy guitar and foregrounded electronic pop and R&B-like rhythms. Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda produced. The sonic density is lighter, but the lyrics and vocals retain strong feelings of anxiety, loss and a longing for connection. If you expect the usual aggression it may feel surprising, but what is emphasized here is emotional closeness and the communicative power of melody. "Heavy," featuring Kiiara, is a delicate pop song, and "Talking to Myself" and "One More Light" carry emotional depth. It is best heard as a record of a band unafraid of change, moving toward more exposed emotion. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. About two months after its release, however, Chester Bennington died in July 2017, and it became the last album by the original lineup. An emotionally rich record where the quiet songs linger deepest.
