Love + War is a work on which LILLIAN AXE bound their heavy guitar and lyrical melody with richer arrangement. Steve Blaze’s guitar is sharp yet expressive, and Ron Taylor’s singing catches the drama of the songs. It is a record that refined the debut’s direction more deeply. On “All's Fair In Love and War,” “Show a Little Love” and “The World Stopped Turning,” a romantic ring and aggressive riffs coexist, with a depth that does not fit into mere glam metal. Songs like “Diana,” “Ghost of Winter” and “Letters In the Rain” breathe the band’s full playing too. They balance the beauty of the melody and the hardness of the band. As a hidden gem of the late 1980s, it is a record still highly regarded.
