Omens

『Omens』は、LAMB OF GODが複雑に噛み合うリフとグルーヴ、ランディ・ブライスの荒々しい咆哮を正面から突き付ける作品だ。曲は無駄なく短く引き締まり、テンポの変化やリズムの引っ掛かりが常に緊張感を保っている。バンドの攻撃性が、いっそう研ぎ澄まされた一枚である。 “Nevermore”“To the Grave”“Omens”といった楽曲では、社会の不安を思わせるタイトルどおり、外へ向かう怒りを精密な演奏で形にしている。“Vanishing”“Gomorrah”“Denial Mechanism”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“Ditch”“Ill Designs”“September Song”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。プロデューサーにジョシュ・ウィルバーを再び迎えた本作はバンドのキャリアの中でも特にダークで攻撃的な内容だと評され、アナログ機材を用いてライヴ感を重視して録音された本作は生々しく荒々しいエネルギーに満ちた、ベテランとなってもなお進化を続けるバンドの姿勢を示す一枚だ。アート・クルーズを迎えた新体制での安定感も感じられる。ベテランとなってもなお、LAMB OF GODの攻撃性と精度は少しも衰えていない、充実した一枚である。

Omens is a work on which LAMB OF GOD thrusts complexly meshing riffs and groove, and Randy Blythe’s rough roar, head-on. The songs are short and tight with no waste, and tempo changes and rhythmic catches always keep the tension. It is a record on which the band’s aggression is even more honed. On “Nevermore,” “To the Grave” and “Omens,” as the socially-uneasy title suggests, they give form to outward-directed anger with precise playing. Songs like “Vanishing,” “Gomorrah” and “Denial Mechanism” breathe the band’s full playing too. The stability of the new lineup welcoming Art Cruz can also be felt. Even as veterans, LAMB OF GOD’s aggression and precision have not dimmed in the least — a full record.
