『Lamb of God』は、セルフタイトルを選んだバンドの10作目であり、その核を改めて提示するような作品だ。ランディ・ブライスの咆哮、ギターの鋭い刻み、重く沈むグルーヴが、社会への不信や個人の苛立ちを容赦なく押し出している。長年ドラムを務めたクリス・アドラーの脱退という、大きな変化を経て制作された一枚である。 “Memento Mori”“Checkmate”“New Colossal Hate”といった楽曲では、新たにドラムを担うアート・クルーズの演奏も、曲の勢いと精度を支えている。“Gears”“Resurrection Man”“Routes”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“Reality Bath”“Poison Dream”“On the Hook”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作はコロナ禍の中で発表され社会の分断や混乱を反映したような緊迫感のある内容となっており、ゲスト・ヴォーカルを迎えた楽曲もある、新体制でのバンドの力強い再出発を示すセルフタイトルにふさわしい充実の一枚だ。過去の型をなぞるだけでなく、速さ、重量、フックの配分を細かく調整している。メンバー・チェンジを乗り越え、バンドがなお攻撃的であり続ける理由を示した、力強い一枚だ。

Lamb of God is the band’s tenth album, on which they chose a self-title, a work that re-presents their core. Randy Blythe’s roar, sharp guitar chugging and heavily sinking groove push out distrust of society and personal irritation without mercy. It is a record made through a great change — the departure of longtime drummer Chris Adler. On “Memento Mori,” “Checkmate” and “New Colossal Hate,” the playing of new drummer Art Cruz also supports the songs’ momentum and precision. Songs like “Gears,” “Resurrection Man” and “Routes” breathe the band’s full playing too. Rather than merely tracing past molds, they finely adjust the distribution of speed, weight and hooks. Overcoming the lineup change, it is a powerful record that showed the reason the band remains aggressive.
