Sons of Thunder

『Sons of Thunder』は、LABYRINTHのギターとキーボードが複雑に動きながらも、曲の中心には常に歌えるメロディを置いた作品だ。ロベルト・ティランティの熱い歌が、楽曲のドラマを明確にしている。前作の路線を、よりプログレッシヴな方向へと推し進めた一枚である。 “Sons of Thunder”“Kathryn”“Touch the Rainbow”といった楽曲では、スピードと構成美を両立させ、演奏派にもメロディ派にも届く内容となっている。“Behind the Mask”“Rage of the King”“Save Me”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作でバンドはより複雑でプログレッシヴな楽曲構成へと踏み込んでおり、“Chapter I”“Elegy”“I Feel You”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。オラフ・トーセンとアンドレア・カンタレッリのツイン・ギターが織りなす緻密なアンサンブルは、バンドの技術的な成熟を示している。スピードと構築美を両立させた、聴くほどに味わいの深まる作品である。技巧的でありながら、決してメロディを見失わない。バンドの持つ洗練を、はっきりと示した一枚だ。

Sons of Thunder is a work on which, while LABYRINTH’s guitar and keyboards move complexly, singable melody is always placed at the center of the songs. Roberto Tiranti’s passionate singing clarifies the drama of the songs. It is a record that pushed the previous album’s direction toward a more progressive one. On “Sons of Thunder,” “Kathryn” and “Touch the Rainbow,” they balance speed and constructive beauty, becoming content that reaches both the playing-minded and the melody-minded. Songs like “Behind the Mask,” “Rage of the King” and “Save Me” breathe the band’s full playing too. While technical, they never lose the melody. It is a record that clearly showed the band’s refinement.
