No Limits

『No Limits』は、LABYRINTHが速いツイン・ギター、華やかなキーボード、伸びのあるヴォーカルを組み合わせ、イタリアン・パワー・メタルの魅力をまっすぐに提示するデビュー作だ。曲は技巧的でも、メロディを中心に据えているため聴き心地は非常に開放的である。イタリアのマッサ出身のバンドが、その才能を世に示した出発点である。 “Mortal Sin”“No Limits”“Piece of Time”といった楽曲では、クラシカルなフレーズと疾走感が交差し、コーラスには大きな高揚がある。“Midnight Resistance”“Vertigo”“The Right Sign”のような楽曲にも、初期らしい瑞々しい魅力が息づいている。1996年に発表された本作は当時勃興しつつあったイタリアン・パワー・メタル・シーンの先駆けとなり、“Dreamland”“Red Zone”“Time Has Come”のような楽曲にも初期らしい瑞々しい魅力が息づいている。ツイン・ギターの華麗な絡みが、全編で光る一枚だ。当時のヴォーカルは、後にラプソディーで名を馳せるファビオ・リオーネ（ジョー・テリー名義）が務めている。後のイタリア勢へ連なるスタイルの原点としても、鮮度を失わない鮮烈なデビュー作だ。

No Limits is the debut on which LABYRINTH combined fast twin guitars, gorgeous keyboards and soaring vocals, straightforwardly presenting the appeal of Italian power metal. The songs are technical, but because melody is at the center, the listening feel is very open. It is the starting point on which the band from Massa, Italy, showed its talent to the world. On “Mortal Sin,” “No Limits” and “Piece of Time,” classical phrases and drive cross, and the choruses have great elation. Songs like “Midnight Resistance,” “Vertigo” and “The Right Sign” breathe an early, fresh appeal too. The vocals were handled by Fabio Lione (under the name Joe Terry), who would later make his name with Rhapsody. As an origin of the style leading to later Italian bands, it is a vivid debut that does not lose freshness.
