This Consequence

『This Consequence』は、怒りと祈りのような旋律を交差させる、KILLSWITCH ENGAGEらしいメタルコア作品である第9作だ。2025年2月にMetal Bladeからリリースされた、約5年ぶりの新作である。メンバー全員が同じ部屋で細部まで作り込んだのは、2002年の『Alive or Just Breathing』以来のことであり、より共同作業的な色合いの濃い一枚となった。 これまで以上にダークで、社会や政治を見据えた歌詞が特徴だ。先行シングル“Forever Aligned”や“I Believe”では、バンドらしい伸びやかなコーラスが健在である。“Broken Glass”“The Fall of Us”は、彼らでも屈指の重さを誇る。“The Fall of Us”は、もともとアダム・Dのサイド・プロジェクトのために書かれた楽曲で、デス・メタル寄りの質感を帯びている。アダム・Dのプロデュースのもと、25年を超えるキャリアを経てなお、バンドの核を力強く鳴らす一枚である。グラミーに3度ノミネートされ、プラチナ・セールスを誇るバンドの、揺るぎない現在地を刻んでいる。

This Consequence is Killswitch Engage's ninth album, a quintessential metalcore work that crosses melodies of anger and prayer. Released in February 2025 through Metal Blade, it is their first new material in about five years. All the members crafting it down to the details in the same room was the first time since 2002's Alive or Just Breathing, making it a more collaborative record. Darker than before, it is marked by lyrics that look hard at society and politics. On the lead singles "Forever Aligned" and "I Believe," the band's soaring choruses are alive and well. "Broken Glass" and "The Fall of Us" are among the heaviest they have made. "The Fall of Us" was originally written for Adam D's side project and carries a death-metal-leaning texture. Under Adam D's production, it is a record that powerfully sounds the band's core even after a career of over 25 years. It marks the unshakable present of a three-time Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling band.
