Dark Asylum, released in 2026, is a record that carries on the appeal of KAMELOT — dramatic melody and symphonic drama. The elements built up over many years around guitarist Thomas Youngblood — heavy riffs, grand orchestration and expressive vocals — function as the core of this work too. For a band that has stayed at the front line for more than a quarter century since the 1990s, this record too sits on the extension of that long path. Rather than being caught only by flashy signature songs, following the center of gravity of the sound, the placement of the choruses and the flow between tracks reveals the album’s character as a whole. Amid changes in the surrounding era, the cinematic, narrative-rich feel at the band’s foundation is not lost. The aesthetic KAMELOT has consistently pursued — painting a large worldview while moving between tension and release, darkness and beauty — breathes here as well. It is a work in which one can feel the unshaken identity and lasting creativity of a band that has established its own theatricality within symphonic power metal. Letting its identity be confirmed from an angle different from the grand works of the golden era, it deserves a place within the flow of the whole discography.
