Fanatic

『Fanatic』は、HEARTが、力強いヴォーカル、アコースティックな陰影、そして重いギター・リフとの間を、自在に行き来しながら、長いキャリアの中でも、少しも衰えることのない、ロックの生命力を、力強く示した作品だ。前作までの、円熟したルーツ回帰路線を受け継ぎながらも、より硬質で、攻撃的なギター・サウンドが、前面に押し出されている。楽曲の曲調は、実に多彩だが、アンとナンシーという、ウィルソン姉妹の声とギターが入ることで、作品全体に、一貫した、確かな存在感が生まれている。 ハードで攻撃的なロック・ナンバーの、鋭い切れ味と、繊細なバラードの、深い陰影とが、隣り合って並ぶことで、アルバムは、豊かで、大きな起伏を持っている。アン・ウィルソンの、圧倒的な歌唱力は、ベテランとなってなお、全く衰えを見せず、力強く冴え渡っている。ナンシー・ウィルソンのギターも、その世界観を、確かに支えている。 ベテランとなってなお、HEARTが持つ、確かな演奏力と、歌の、圧倒的な説得力とを、改めて力強く感じることができる一枚だ。派手な流行を追うのではなく、あくまで、自分たちの、確かなロックを、力強く鳴らし続けている。ウィルソン姉妹の、変わらぬ情熱と、その円熟した実力とを示した、聴き応えのあるロック作品と言える。バンドの健在ぶりを示す一枚だ。

Fanatic is a work on which Heart, freely moving between powerful vocals, acoustic shading and heavy guitar riffs, powerfully shows a rock vitality that has not dimmed in the least even over a long career. While inheriting the mature roots-return direction of the previous works, a harder, more aggressive guitar sound is foregrounded. The songs’ styles are truly varied, yet with the voices and guitar of the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy, a consistent, sure presence is born across the whole work. By the sharp edge of hard, aggressive rock numbers and the deep shading of delicate ballads lining up side by side, the album has rich, large rise and fall. Ann Wilson’s overwhelming singing, even as a veteran, shows no decline at all, powerfully in sharp form. Nancy Wilson’s guitar also surely supports that world. A record on which one can again powerfully feel Heart’s sure playing and the overwhelming conviction of the singing, even as veterans. Rather than chasing flashy trends, they keep powerfully sounding their own sure rock. Showing the Wilson sisters’ unchanging passion and mature ability, it is an engaging rock work — a record showing the band’s vigor.
