Weight of the World

『Weight of the World』は、HAREM SCAREMが緻密なコーラス、抑制の効いたギター、そして感情的な歌メロを巧みに組み合わせた、円熟した作品だ。実験的な時期を経て、バンドは再び、自らの原点であるメロディック・ロックへと回帰しつつ、そこにより成熟した深みを加えている。派手なハード・ロックとしての快楽を残しながらも、楽曲には、少し重い陰影と、大人びた書法が目立つ、聴き応えのある一枚だ。 冒頭の表題曲“Weight of the World”の力強さ、“Killing Me”の叙情、そして“All I Want”のキャッチーさまで、収録曲はいずれも高い完成度を誇る。“This Ain't Over”“Charmed Life”のような曲も、バンドの豊かなソングライティングを伝えている。軽快な曲であっても、アレンジの細部と、豊かなハーモニーが、確かな深みを作り出している。 モダンな実験期を経て、バンドが再び、得意とする美しいメロディと、確かな演奏力へと立ち返った、円熟の充実作だ。かつての瑞々しさとは、また異なる、大人の落ち着きと深みが加わっている。メロディック・ロックを、より成熟した温度で味わいたい聴き手に、強くお勧めできる一枚と言える。ヘスとレスペランスの円熟した手腕が光る。

Weight of the World is a mature work on which Harem Scarem deftly combines precise choruses, restrained guitar and emotional vocal melody. After an experimental period, the band returns again to its origin, melodic rock, while adding a more mature depth. Keeping the pleasure of flashy hard rock, it is an engaging record where a somewhat heavy shading and grown-up writing stand out in the songs. From the power of the opening title track “Weight of the World” and the lyricism of “Killing Me” to the catchiness of “All I Want,” every song boasts high polish, while cuts like “This Ain’t Over” and “Charmed Life” convey the band’s rich songwriting. Even in light songs, the details of the arrangement and rich harmony create a sure depth. A mature, fulfilling work on which, after a modern experimental period, the band returns again to the beautiful melody and sure playing it does best. A grown-up calm and depth, different from the freshness of old, are added. It can be strongly recommended to listeners who want to savor melodic rock at a more mature temperature — the mature skill of Hess and Lesperance shining.
