『G.』は、太いギター・リフと、スティーヴ・リーの伸びやかな歌声を中心に、GOTTHARDの、メロディアスなハード・ロックを、まっすぐに提示した第3作だ。勢いのある力強いロック曲と、歌心を重視した叙情的な曲とが、自然に並び、バンドの、豊かな懐の深さが、はっきりと見て取れる。前2作で確立した路線を、より充実させた一枚である。 冒頭“Sister Moon”のドラマ性、キャッチーな“Make My Day”、そしてボブ・ディランの楽曲をカヴァーした“Mighty Quinn”まで、収録曲はいずれも聴き応えがある。“Movin' On”の勢い、“Fist in Your Face”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。ブルースや、クラシック・ロックの、豊かな手触りを残しながらも、そのフックは、非常に現代的で、力強い。 骨太で力強い演奏と、キャッチーで親しみやすいメロディとが、極めて高い次元で同居している点に、本作の魅力がある。スイスを代表する、ハード・ロック・バンドとしての地位を、確固たるものにした、充実の一枚だ。スティーヴ・リーの、ソウルフルで表現力豊かな歌声は、この時期、さらに深みを増している。GOTTHARDの、90年代の充実を示す、力強い佳作と言える。安定感が光る一枚だ。

G. is the third album that straightforwardly presents Gotthard’s melodic hard rock, around thick guitar riffs and Steve Lee’s soaring voice. Momentum-filled, powerful rock songs and lyrical songs valuing songcraft line up naturally, and the band’s rich depth can be clearly seen. A record that further enriches the direction established on the first two albums. From the drama of the opener “Sister Moon” and the catchy “Make My Day” to “Mighty Quinn,” a cover of a Bob Dylan song, every song is engaging, while the momentum of “Movin’ On” and a cut like “Fist in Your Face” convey the work’s fullness. Keeping the rich feel of blues and classic rock, its hooks are very modern and powerful. Its appeal lies in sturdy, powerful playing and catchy, accessible melody coexisting at an extremely high level.
