Fortitude

『Fortitude』は、重低音のグルーヴと精神性を結び、GOJIRAがヘヴィネスの新たな広がりを示した第7作だ。前作『Magma』の内省的な深化を経て、より力強くダイナミックな方向へと回帰した一枚である。リリースと同時に、各国のストリーミング・チャートの首位を獲得した。デュプランティエ兄弟は環境保護への関心を強く抱いており、その姿勢が本作の随所ににじんでいる。“Amazonia”のシングルは、実際に熱帯雨林保護のための募金活動にも結び付けられた。 “Amazonia”“Born for One Thing”“Another World”といった、多彩な楽曲が並ぶ。アマゾンの熱帯雨林の危機を訴えた“Amazonia”は、グラミー賞にノミネートされた。東洋哲学に着想を得た“Born for One Thing”など、環境と精神性のテーマが色濃く反映されている。長いキャリアを経てなお進化を続ける、現代メタルの最重要バンドの一つとしての現在地を示す一枚である。本作の後、彼らは2024年のパリ・オリンピック開会式に出演し、メタル・バンドとして史上初めてその舞台に立った。まさに現代メタルの頂点を象徴する存在だ。

Fortitude is Gojira's seventh album, on which they showed a new breadth of heaviness by tying low-end groove to spirituality. After the introspective deepening of the previous Magma, it is a record that returned to a more forceful, dynamic direction. Upon release, it topped the streaming charts in various countries. The Duplantier brothers hold a strong concern for environmental protection, and that stance seeps through the album. The single 'Amazonia' was even tied to a fundraising campaign to protect the rainforest. Varied songs like "Amazonia," "Born for One Thing" and "Another World" line up. "Amazonia," which cried out about the crisis of the Amazon rainforest, was nominated for a Grammy Award. Themes of the environment and spirituality are strongly reflected, as in "Born for One Thing," inspired by Eastern philosophy. A record marking the current standing of one of the most important bands in modern metal, still evolving after a long career. After this album, they performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, becoming the first metal band ever to take that stage. They truly symbolize the summit of modern metal.
