Phoenix Rising is a fulfilling work on which Galneryus, binding fluid, beautiful guitar, splendid keyboards and vocals soaring powerfully to the high range, largely sounded power metal with a Japanese, lyrical melodic sense. The momentum of the speeding songs and the sure openness of the dramatic choruses unite extremely naturally. A record where Masatoshi Ono’s overwhelming high range powerfully drives that world. From the development from the opening instrumental to the speeding “The Rising” and the drama of “Tear Off Your Chain” to a cut like “Future Never Dies,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Spirit of Steel” and “The Wind Blows” convey the work’s fullness. Syu’s neoclassical, virtuosic guitar is powerfully in sharp form throughout.
