『Can't Slow Down』は、FOREIGNERが実に15年ぶりに放った第9作であり、新体制での再出発を告げる作品だ。唯一の創設メンバーであるミック・ジョーンズ(ギター)を中心に、ケリー・ハンセン(ヴォーカル)とジェフ・ピルソン(ベース、元DOKKEN)が初のスタジオ作に参加した。トム・ギンベル(ギター/サックス)、マイケル・ブルースタイン(鍵盤)、ブライアン・ティシー(ドラム)を加えた新編成が、往年の魅力を現代的な音で更新している。 “Living in a Dream”“Ready”のような楽曲では、力強いリフとハンセンの伸びやかな歌声が一体となる。“In Pieces”“When It Comes to Love”といったバラードには、FOREIGNERらしい叙情が息づいている。ジョーンズとマルティ・フレデリクセンによるプロデュースは、バンドの伝統的な様式を丁寧に受け継いだ。“Can't Slow Down”“Too Late”のような楽曲では、疾走するリフとハンセンの伸びやかな歌声が一体となり、70年代の勢いを思わせる。15年の空白を経てなお、バンドのメロディへの信頼はまったく揺るがない。本作はRIAAゴールド認定を獲得し、新生FOREIGNERの確かな再始動を印象づけた一枚である。

Can't Slow Down is the ninth album, released after a full fifteen years, announcing a fresh start with a new lineup. Centered on the sole founding member Mick Jones (guitar), Kelly Hansen (vocals) and Jeff Pilson (bass, ex-Dokken) took part in their first studio work. The new lineup adding Thom Gimbel (guitar/sax), Michael Bluestein (keyboards) and Brian Tichy (drums) updates the classic appeal with a contemporary sound. On songs like "Living in a Dream" and "Ready," powerful riffs and Hansen's soaring voice unite. Ballads like "In Pieces" and "When It Comes to Love" hold lyricism characteristic of Foreigner. Production by Jones and Marti Frederiksen carefully inherited the band's traditional style. The album won RIAA Gold certification, impressing a firm restart for a reborn Foreigner.
