Rockville is a record on which FM depicted mature melodic rock through warm vocals, smooth keyboards and tasteful guitar. Valuing the comfort of the songs over flashy technique, the choruses open naturally and stay in the ear. It shows the post-reunion band having regained a steady pace of creation. On “Tough Love,” “Wake Up the World,” “Story of My Life” and “Crosstown Train,” AOR refinement and a hard-rock core coexist gently, conveying the songs’ appeal without rushing the listener. Songs like “Only Foolin'” and “Better Late Than Never” show a grown-up composure and firm melodic sense too. With Steve Overland’s voice gaining a matured appeal, it is a flavorful record to keep company when you want to savor grown-up melody at leisure.
