Indiscreet is the debut on which FM combined the smooth melodic sense of AOR with hard-rock push at a high level of polish. Centered on Steve Overland’s warm, soaring voice, the keyboards and guitar shape the songs’ outlines neatly. Emerging from mid-1980s Britain, they digested American-style melodic rock with their own refinement and vividly showed their ability on this record. On “That Girl,” “Frozen Heart” and “Other Side of Midnight,” accessible choruses and firm playing join naturally, lining up melodies that are memorable yet deep. Songs like “I Belong to the Night,” “Hot Wired” and “Face to Face” breathe the band’s high writing and playing too. A fine melodic-hard record that keeps British refinement without losing any of the songs’ heat, it is still highly regarded as a firm starting point of FM’s career.
