Face Your Fears

『Face Your Fears』は、FIRST SIGNALが2023年2月17日に発表した第5作だ。ここでも顔ぶれは一新された。ギターにマルコ・パストリーノ、ベースと追加ギターにミケーレ・グアイトリ、ドラムにマルコ・アンドレットが加わっている。グアイトリはヴィジョンズ・オブ・アトランティスやテンパランスで歌う人物であり、今回はハリー・ヘスの相方として制作の中心に立った。 音はここで明らかに重くなった。疾走するギターとツーバスが並び、ハーレム・スキャーレムの聴き手には最初戸惑うかもしれない。理由は二つある。フロンティアーズという欧州中心のレーベルの色と、いまやメロディック・ロックの中心が米国ではなく欧州にあるという現実だ。冒頭“Unbreakable”から“Situation Critical”“Shoot the Bullet”と硬い曲が続き、“Rain for Your Roses”で息を整え、“Never Be Silenced”が締める全11曲。それでもサビが開いた瞬間には、あの声が変わらずそこにいる。2010年の結成から13年、5枚のアルバムを通じて不変だったのは、結局ハリー・ヘスただ一人だった。

Face Your Fears, released on 17 February 2023, is the fifth album. The personnel are renewed here too: Marco Pastorino on guitar, Michele Guaitoli on bass and additional guitar, Marco Andreetto on drums. Guaitoli sings in Visions of Atlantis and Temperance, and here he stands at the centre of the making as Harry Hess's foil. The sound got distinctly heavier here. Racing guitars and double bass drums line up, and Harem Scarem listeners may be thrown at first. There are two reasons: the colour of Frontiers, a Europe-centred label, and the fact that the centre of melodic rock now lies in Europe rather than America. Hard songs run from the opening “Unbreakable” through “Situation Critical” and “Shoot the Bullet”; “Rain for Your Roses” catches the breath, and “Never Be Silenced” closes the eleven. Yet the moment a chorus opens, that voice is still there, unchanged. Thirteen years from the 2010 start and across five albums, the only constant was, in the end, Harry Hess alone.
