Liner Notes

Japanese

“Kickstart My Heart”“Girls Got Rhythm”は粗さと遊びを残し、“Livin’ on a Prayer”では巨大なコーラスを自分の明るい声質へ自然に置き換える。

English

Eriksplanations, Vol. 2 advances Grönwall’s cover project from a series of impressive online performances into a coherent vocal album. “Painkiller” reaches toward Rob Halford’s extreme register, yet the achievement lies not only in pitch; the consonants, rhythmic urgency and sustained pressure are treated as part of the composition. “Kickstart My Heart” and “Girls Got Rhythm” retain dirt and humor, while “Livin’ on a Prayer” translates a stadium chorus into the brighter edge of Grönwall’s own tone. “Faithfully” moves from controlled storytelling to a wide-open refrain, and “Still of the Night” demands both blues-rooted lower phrases and metallic screams. “Eagle Fly Free” and “Neon Knights” reveal his command of European heavy-metal speed and heroic melody. The duet “Alone,” featuring Chez Kane, works because the voices add contrasting textures rather than simply competing for the highest note. “Without You” then closes the album by returning virtuosity to emotional afterglow. Respect for the originals is obvious, but exact imitation is never the final purpose. Modern production, adjusted phrasing and Grönwall’s physical approach to singing ask why these songs remain durable. The range of material and the carefully changing intensity make the album a three-dimensional portrait of his technique, taste and instinct as a frontman.
