『Paradigm』は、ECLIPSEを一躍メインストリームの注目へと押し上げた、バンドの飛躍作である第7作だ。現代的な音圧と80年代的な巨大なサビを結び付けつつ、“Battlegrounds”で萌芽を見せたゲイリー・ムーア風のケルティックな旋律を全面的に取り込み、重厚なAORの枠を大きく押し広げている。ドラムにフィリップ・クルスナー、ベースにマグヌス・ウルフステットを擁した布陣で、劇的かつ叙情的な作風を高い完成度で結実させた。本作は重厚なAORの型を打ち破った意欲作として各方面から絶賛を浴び、バンドを大型フェスの舞台へと押し上げた。 先行シングル“Viva La Victoria”は、ノワール調のリフと壮麗なサビを備え、2,000万回を超える再生を記録した代表曲だ。“Mary Leigh”の巨大なコーラス、“Blood Wants Blood”の陰影あるケルティックな旋律、“Delirious”の攻撃性まで、多彩な楽曲が並ぶ。エリック・マーテンソンの表現力豊かな歌唱と、マグヌス・ヘンリクソンの華麗なリードが全編を彩り、バンド史上最も成功した一枚となった。メロディック・ロックの現在地を示す屈指の名盤である。

Paradigm is Eclipse's seventh album, the band's breakthrough that thrust them into mainstream attention all at once. Tying modern sonic weight to 1980s-style huge choruses while fully incorporating the Gary Moore-esque Celtic melodies first budding on "Battlegrounds," it greatly widens the heavy-AOR mold. With drummer Philip Crusner and bassist Magnus Ulfstedt in the lineup, it brings a dramatic, lyrical style to high completion. Praised across the board as an ambitious work that broke the heavy-AOR mold, it lifted the band onto major festival stages. The lead single "Viva La Victoria," with a noir-tinged riff and a majestic chorus, is a signature song that has logged over twenty million streams. From the huge chorus of "Mary Leigh" and the shadowed Celtic melody of "Blood Wants Blood" to the aggression of "Delirious," varied songs line up. Erik Mårtensson's expressive singing and Magnus Henriksson's brilliant leads color the whole record, making it the most successful album in the band's history.
