『Six』は、DREAM EVILが正統派ヘヴィ・メタルの喜びを、太いリフと大きなコーラスで真っすぐ届ける第6作だ。前作から実に7年を経た2017年に発表された。タイトルはそのまま6作目であることを指している。曲は複雑さを誇るよりも、覚えやすいフレーズとライブで映える勢いを優先する。ギターは鋭く、リズムは豪快で、歌は高揚感を途切れさせない。長い沈黙の後とは思えないほど自然体の仕上がりで、待った甲斐のある内容といえるだろう。 バンドらしい遊び心も残しつつ、演奏自体は非常に引き締まっている。バンド名を冠した冒頭の“Dream Evil”から“Antidote”“Sin City”“Creature of the Night”“Hellride”“Six Hundred and 66”“How to Start a War”“The Murdered Mind”“Too Loud”を経て、締めの“We Are Forever”まで12曲が並ぶ。古典的なメタルの作法を愛する人には親しみやすく、同時に現代の音圧も備えている。ノルドストレームのプロデュース手腕もあり、音の抜けは終始良い。迷わずヘッドバンギングへ導く、気持ちの良い一枚だ。

Six is the sixth album, delivering orthodox heavy metal's joy straight through thick riffs and big choruses. Released in 2017, fully seven years after the last record. The title simply points to it being their sixth. The songs prioritize memorable phrases and live-ready momentum over boasting complexity. The guitars are sharp, the rhythms bold, and the singing never lets the elation break. For coming after such a long silence the finish is remarkably natural — fair to say it was worth the wait. While keeping the band's playfulness, the playing itself is very tight. From the opener “Dream Evil,” which carries the band's own name, through “Antidote,” “Sin City,” “Creature of the Night,” “Hellride,” “Six Hundred and 66,” “How to Start a War,” “The Murdered Mind” and “Too Loud” to the closing “We Are Forever,” twelve songs line up. It's approachable for anyone who loves classic metal's manners while also carrying modern sonic pressure. Thanks to Nordström's production skill the sound stays clear throughout. A pleasing record that leads you straight to headbanging.
