Road of Desire came out on 19 May 1999. A caution first: this is not the debut. Damned Nation formed in Sweden in 1993 and released Just What the Doctor Ordered in 1995, which makes this their second album, four years on.
Thomas Thorsén sings. It is built on thick guitar riffs and a forward rhythm section, with melancholic vocal melodies and keyboard colour laid over the top — squarely inside the standard grammar of Nordic melodic hard rock at that moment. Stepping outside it was still four years away.
