『Are You Dead Yet?』は、鋭いギター、派手なキーボード、アレキシ・ライホの粗い歌を前面に出した作品だ。以前よりもリフの重さと曲の直進力が強まり、短い時間で強い印象を残す。よりグルーヴを強調した、モダンなサウンドへと踏み込んだ一枚である。 “Living Dead Beat”“Are You Dead Yet?”“In Your Face”といった楽曲では、メロディの華やかさは失われず、冷たい暴力性とパーティー感が同居している。“Punch Me I Bleed”“Bastards of Bodom”“Trashed, Lost & Strungout”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“If You Want Peace... Prepare for War”“Next in Line”“We're Not Gonna Fall”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。プロダクションはよりモダンでヘヴィになりインダストリアルな質感も取り入れられ、従来のネオクラシカルな要素をやや抑えリフ主体の直接的なアプローチへと転換したことでバンドは新たなファン層を獲得した。ビリー・アイドルの“Rebel Yell”のカヴァーも収録されている。本作からギタリストにローペ・ラトヴァラが加入した。CHILDREN OF BODOMの危険なキャッチーさを濃く刻んだ一枚である。

Are You Dead Yet? is a work that foregrounded sharp guitar, flashy keyboards and Alexi Laiho’s rough singing. The weight of the riffs and the forward drive of the songs are stronger than before, leaving a strong impression in a short time. It is a record that stepped into a more modern sound with emphasized groove. On “Living Dead Beat,” “Are You Dead Yet?” and “In Your Face,” the splendor of the melody is not lost, with cold violence and a party feel coexisting. Songs like “Punch Me I Bleed,” “Bastards of Bodom” and “Trashed, Lost & Strungout” breathe the band’s full playing too. From this record, guitarist Roope Latvala joined. It is a record that deeply carved CHILDREN OF BODOM’s dangerous catchiness.
