『Hate Crew Deathroll』は、CHILDREN OF BODOMが鋭いギター、切迫したキーボード、荒々しい歌を高速でぶつけ合う作品だ。前作までの華麗さを残しつつも、リフはより重く、曲はスラッシュ的な攻撃性へと大きく踏み込んでいる。ギタリスト、アレキサンダー・クオッパラが参加した最後の作品でもある。 “Needled 24/7”“Sixpounder”“Hate Crew Deathroll”といった楽曲では、短い曲の中にも技術とメロディが凝縮され、演奏は常に張り詰めている。“Chokehold (Cocked 'n' Loaded)”“Angels Don't Kill”“Bodom Beach Terror”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“Triple Corpse Hammerblow”“You're Better Off Dead”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作をもってバンドはメロディック・デス・メタルの枠を超え、より攻撃的なスラッシュ／パワー・メタル的な要素を強めていった、荒々しさと様式美が高い次元で両立した一枚だ。より攻撃的でストレートな方向へと舵を切りながらも、バンドならではの華やかさは失われていない。北欧メタルの華やかさと荒々しさを結んだ、代表作の一つである。

Hate Crew Deathroll is a work on which CHILDREN OF BODOM clash sharp guitar, urgent keyboards and rough singing at high speed. While keeping the splendor of the previous albums, the riffs are heavier and the songs step greatly into a thrash-like aggression. It is also the last work on which guitarist Alexander Kuoppala took part. On “Needled 24/7,” “Sixpounder” and “Hate Crew Deathroll,” technique and melody are condensed even within short songs, and the playing is always taut. Songs like “Chokehold (Cocked 'n' Loaded),” “Angels Don't Kill” and “Bodom Beach Terror” breathe the band’s full playing too. While steering toward a more aggressive, straight direction, the band’s characteristic splendor is not lost. Binding the splendor and roughness of Nordic metal, it is one of their signature works.
