『Buckcherry』は、BUCKCHERRYがブルージーなギター・リフ、ざらついたヴォーカル、危なげなロックンロールの勢いで押し切ったデビュー作だ。曲はシンプルだが、リズムの粘りとフックの強さが強烈な推進力を生んでいる。エアロスミスやガンズ・アンド・ローゼズの系譜を受け継ぐ、ロサンゼルス発のスリージーなハード・ロックである。 “Lit Up”“For the Movies”“Check Your Head”といった楽曲では、華美な装飾よりも、バンドが同じ場所で鳴らしているような生々しさが前面に出ている。とりわけ“Lit Up”は、バンドの名を一躍知らしめたヒット曲となった。“Crushed”“Dead Again”“Get Back”のような楽曲にも、バンドの荒々しい魅力が息づいている。“Related”“Borderline”“Baby”のような楽曲にも、初期らしい荒々しさが息づいている。デビュー当時からジョシュ・トッドの危険な魅力とキース・ネルソンの骨太なギターは多くのロック・ファンを惹きつけ、グランジ以降のシーンに往年のスリージー・ロックを蘇らせた一枚である。90年代末のハード・ロックに野性味を取り戻した本作は、その後のバンドの方向性を明確に示す、力強いデビュー作だ。

Buckcherry is the debut on which BUCKCHERRY pushed through with bluesy guitar riffs, gritty vocals and the momentum of dangerous rock ’n’ roll. The songs are simple, but the tenacity of the rhythm and the strength of the hooks generate intense drive. It is Los Angeles-born sleazy hard rock inheriting the lineage of Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses. On “Lit Up,” “For the Movies” and “Check Your Head,” a rawness as if the band were playing all in the same room comes to the front over any ornament. In particular, “Lit Up” became a hit that made the band’s name known at a stroke. Songs like “Crushed,” “Dead Again” and “Get Back” breathe the band’s rough appeal too. Restoring wildness to late-1990s hard rock, it is a powerful debut that clearly shows the band’s direction to come.
