『Corporate America』は、ブラッド・デルプが復帰し、トム・ショルツの精緻なサウンドに社会的な視点を織り込んだ第5作だ。デルプとフラン・コスモが共にヴォーカルを取り、キンバリー・ダーメがバンド初の女性メンバーとしてベースで加わった。ショルツ、ゲイリー・ピールらの演奏を軸に、アルテミスから発表された本作は、企業社会や現代アメリカへの批評的なまなざしを主題としている。 “I Had a Good Time”の開放感、表題曲の風刺は、BOSTONらしい壮大さと社会性を同時に伝える。“Stare Out Your Window”“Someone”のような楽曲にも、緻密なコーラスと透明感が息づく。ショルツは表題曲を偽名で音楽サイトへ投稿し、若い世代の反応を試すという実験も行った。“With You”の叙情、“Turn It Off”の力強さも、アルバムの幅を支えている。ダーメの加入はバンドに新たな声とベースをもたらし、演奏に彩りを添えた。8年ぶりの新作として、ショルツは変わらぬ緻密なサウンドと社会的な問題意識を提示した。商業的成功は控えめだったが、洗練されたプロダクションと堅実な楽曲が評価された一枚である。

Corporate America is the fifth album, on which Brad Delp returned and a social viewpoint was woven into Tom Scholz's refined sound. Delp and Fran Cosmo shared vocals, and Kimberley Dahme joined on bass as the band's first female member. Centered on the playing of Scholz, Gary Pihl and others and released via Artemis, it takes a critical gaze at corporate society and contemporary America as its theme. The openness of "I Had a Good Time" and the satire of the title track convey BOSTON's grandeur and social awareness at once. Meticulous choruses and transparency live on songs like "Stare Out Your Window" and "Someone" too. Scholz even ran an experiment, posting the title track to a music site under a pseudonym to test younger listeners' reactions. Commercial success was modest, but it is a record praised for its refined production and solid songwriting.
