CONQUEROR

『CONQUEROR』は、BAND-MAIDの楽曲志向を大きく押し広げたフル・アルバムだ。従来の激しいハードロックだけでなく、“endless Story”“Mirage”のようにメロディを前面へ出した曲が増え、バンドの芯にある歌心がより明確に見えるようになった。“PAGE”“glory”の序盤から、スケールを狙いつつ演奏の個性を手放さない姿勢が伝わる。 一方で“Blooming”“輪廻”では、複雑なリフとテンションの高い演奏が炸裂し、ロック・バンドとしての迫力は失われていない。“Wonderland”“azure”“The Dragon Cries”のように叙情や物語性を帯びた曲、“flying high”“カタルシス”のように勢いで押す曲が交互に現れ、静と動のコントラストが作品全体を貫く。 メジャー感と技巧、ポップな親しみやすさとメタリックな硬さを同居させた本作は、BAND-MAIDが次の段階へ進むための土台を築いた一枚だ。KANAMIのギターとSAIKIの歌を軸に、5人のアンサンブルがひとつの方向へ集まっていく過程が、はっきりと記録されている。ハードロックとメタル、そしてポップな親しみやすさを一枚で束ねた本作は、のちの世界的評価へつながる重要な布石でもある。

CONQUEROR broadens BAND-MAID’s songwriting vocabulary considerably. Alongside the band’s familiar hard-rock attack, songs such as “endless Story” and “Mirage” give melody more room, making the emotional core of the group easier to hear. From the opening of “PAGE” and “glory,” the album aims for scale without giving up instrumental identity. At the same time, “Blooming” and “輪廻” keep the tension high with intricate riffs and forceful playing, so the record never loses its power as a rock album. Lyrical, narrative-leaning songs such as “Wonderland,” “azure” and “The Dragon Cries” alternate with the momentum of “flying high” and “カタルシス,” and the contrast between quiet and loud runs through the whole set. Balancing polish and technicality, accessible hooks and metallic hardness, CONQUEROR lays the groundwork for the band’s next stage, documenting five players converging on a single direction.
