Becoming

『Becoming』は、独りの歌い手が、今度はバンドを持って作った第2作である。2007年春、アリ・コイヴネンは長年の知り合いを中心にライヴ・バンドを組んだ。ギターのエルッカ・コルホネン、ベースのエルッキ・シルヴェンノイネン、鍵盤のヴィリ・オッリラ。5月に初公演を行い、最初の一年で100本を超える舞台に立つ。ルカ・ガルガーノ(ギター)とマウロ・ガルガーノ(ドラム)は結成時から2008年まで在籍し、本作の録音にも参加した。2007年から2008年にかけての公演数はおよそ160本、うち2本は東京だった。 前作との最大の違いは、曲の出所である。デビュー作は外部の書き手が全曲を用意したが、本作の大半はアリ・コイヴネン・バンド自身が書いた。プロデュースは再びニノ・ラウレンネとパシ・ヘイッキラ。2008年6月11日の発表、初週で首位、一週間でゴールド。ただし首位に居られたのは一週だけで、前作の12週とは比べるべくもない。日本盤は6月25日に出て“Fight Forever”を追加した。同年11月25日、テクニカル・デス・メタルのアモラルが彼を歌い手として迎えると発表した。翌2009年の『Show Your Colors』が、アモラルにとって四枚目にして、コイヴネンの声で歌われた最初の一枚となる。ソロ名義の二枚は、ここで一区切りとなった。

Becoming is the second album, made this time by a singer who had a band. In the spring of 2007 Ari Koivunen put a live band together, mostly from people he had known for years: Erkka Korhonen on guitar, Erkki Silvennoinen on bass, Vili Ollila on keyboards. They played their first show in May and passed a hundred gigs inside the first year. Luca Gargano (guitar) and Mauro Gargano (drums) were in it from the start until 2008 and played on this recording. Across 2007 and 2008 there were roughly 160 shows, two of them in Tokyo. The big difference from the debut is where the songs came from. Outside writers had supplied every track on the first record; most of this one was written by the Ari Koivunen band itself. Nino Laurenne and Pasi Heikkilä produced again. Released on 11 June 2008, it entered at number one and went gold within a week — but held the top for a single week, nothing like the twelve of its predecessor. The Japanese edition followed on 25 June with an extra track, “Fight Forever.” On 25 November that year, Amoral announced him as their singer. These two solo albums are where that chapter closed.
