Fireworks

『Fireworks』は、ANGRAがパワー・メタルの疾走感へブラジル的なリズム感、プログレッシヴな展開、繊細なメロディを織り込んだ作品だ。演奏は精密だが、楽曲は技巧を見せるためだけでなく、鮮やかな歌の流れを作るために組み立てられている。アンドレ・マトスが在籍した最後の作品となった一枚である。 “Wings of Reality”“Metal Icarus”“Rainy Nights”といった楽曲では、明るい高揚感と複雑なアレンジが同居し、曲ごとに豊かな色彩がある。“Petrified Eyes”“Paradise”“Speed”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作は前2作に比べよりシンプルでダイレクトな作風へと舵を切っており、“Lisbon”“Mystery Machine”“Extreme Dream”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作の完成後アンドレ・マトスら3名が脱退し、バンドは大きな転換期を迎えることになった。前2作に比べ、よりストレートで力強いサウンドも感じられる。この作品を最後に、マトスを含む3名が脱退することになった。ANGRAの幅広い音楽性を味わえる、初期の集大成的な一枚だ。

Fireworks is a work on which ANGRA wove Brazilian rhythmic feel, progressive development and delicate melody into power-metal drive. The playing is precise, but the songs are built not only to show technique but to make a vivid flow of the singing. It is the record that became the last work on which Andre Matos was a member. On “Wings of Reality,” “Metal Icarus” and “Rainy Nights,” bright elation and complex arrangement coexist, and each song has rich color. Songs like “Petrified Eyes,” “Paradise” and “Speed” breathe the band’s full playing too. Compared with the previous two albums, a more straightforward, powerful sound is also felt. With this work as the last, three members including Matos would depart. It is an early-period culmination record on which ANGRA’s wide musicality can be savored.
